Laura M. Brancato

Laura Brancato, Esq. Headshot

Laura M. Brancato is the founder of Brancato Law Group, PLLC and a highly experienced litigator devoted to protecting vulnerable clients and guiding the families who care for them.

Her practice is centered on high-need beneficiaries and individuals whose circumstances require careful legal protection, thoughtful planning, and strong advocacy. She represents clients across a broad spectrum of vulnerability, including matters involving developmental or intellectual disabilities, serious mental health diagnoses, substance abuse or misuse disorders, eating disorders, dementia, and other conditions that leave a person vulnerable or at risk.

Laura serves these clients in a multitude of ways. Her practice includes adult guardianship proceedings, guardianship matters involving persons with disabilities, trust administration and accounting proceedings, Mental Hygiene Law proceedings, Family Court proceedings, and criminal court representation. Whether a matter calls for strategic guidance, protective intervention, or courtroom advocacy, she brings both sensitivity and strength to the work.

What distinguishes Laura’s practice is not only the breadth of proceedings she handles, but the nature of the clients she serves. Families facing these circumstances are often carrying enormous responsibility. They are trying to protect a loved one, preserve dignity, manage risk, and make sound decisions in situations that are emotionally demanding and legally complex. Laura approaches that responsibility with clear judgment, discretion, and a deep respect for the human realities involved.

Laura’s background includes service as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx, where she developed the litigation skills that continue to shape her advocacy. For the past 23 years, Laura broadened her practice to serve clients in guardianship, elder law and special needs matters. She participates in Bar Association efforts touching on mental illness, homelessness, and vulnerable populations.

Laura has participated in extensive speaking engagements, teaming up with organizations like the New York State Bar Association, Women’s Bar Association, Westchester County Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, American Bar Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Caring Kind and many others to continue her commitment to educating families.

Her practice reflects a sophisticated understanding that vulnerability can take many forms. A client may be at risk because of disability, psychiatric illness, addiction, cognitive decline, or overlapping conditions that affect safety, autonomy, and long-term well-being. Laura works with families to bring clarity to difficult situations and to protect those who may be unable to protect themselves.

Through Brancato Law Group, PLLC, Laura serves clients throughout New York City, Westchester, Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties, with offices in Westchester and on the North Fork of Long Island. She also consults and confers on mental health and substance abuse-related matters across all 50 states and internationally.

At the center of Laura’s practice is a simple but deeply held commitment: to protect vulnerable people with dignity, and to help families navigate difficult circumstances with confidence, care, and strong advocacy.
